Okatie Elementary, nestled along the banks of the Okatie River between the towns of Bluffton and Beaufort, is one of twenty-three elementary schools in Beaufort County. Our rural community provides a wealth of opportunities to connect curriculum to the real world, enriching the instructional process. The exquisite natural environment of the Lowcountry provides a source for a wide range of educational resources and experiences. Okatie’s student body represents a diverse socio-economic population, with 51% qualifying for subsidized meal assistance.
Okatie thrives on best practices, ensuring student progress and success. Students make continuous gains in achievement and growth through authentic learning, a standards-based curriculum, and a dedicated staff. Our school provides a safe, nurturing environment in which all students are encouraged to achieve their fullest potential. As the cornerstone of our ongoing success, we relentlessly follow the fundamental steps for improvement: analyze, evaluate, discuss, research, plan a course of action, apply, and begin again.
Just as students must excel in many subjects to be truly accomplished, schools must excel on many levels with different populations. Our vision is to meet the educational needs of all students through a challenging, innovative curriculum aligned to Common Core standards. District benchmarks, state test results, common formative assessments, and student performance guide instructional decisions for individual learners. Our goal is to challenge students to reach their personal best while removing barriers along the way.
Our successes reflect not only excellent teaching, but a strong, connected community. Parents, volunteers, and business partnerships are major assets to our school. Our staff wants to make the world a better place and believes it begins in our community.
